Welcome to one of the natural wonders of the world, The Salar de Uyuni, or the great Salt Flat of Uyuni, Bolivia. It is the world’s largest salt flat and it resulted from the transformation of several prehistoric lakes. When it rains, it also becomes the world’s largest mirror. It can be seen from the moon……

Traversing and exploring the salt flat is one of the highlights on our Viva Bolivia! Tour. The salt flat covers over 4,000 square miles and contains 10 billion tons of salt! We want to acknowledge and thank one of our Small Footprint alumni, photographer Seth Arlow (seen below), by sharing these photographs which he made of “El Salar” on our last tour to Bolivia.

Seth and Vicky Arlow are world travelers, and we have enjoyed having them on our tours to Bolivia and to Myanmar. On our upcoming 16 day adventure in Bolivia, we will spend two days and nights on the Salar, even sleeping in a hotel made completely of salt. It is a journey unlike anything you have experienced.
